Fundrasing and Using What I’ve Got

Fundrasing and Using What I’ve Got

I think you’d be very hard pressed to find someone today who hasn’t been affected in some way by cancer. Be it the loss of a family member, a friend, someone they know. I’m pretty confident in saying that it’s something that must have touched us all in some way.

I certainly have had my share of it circulating its way through my life. Friends and colleagues who are living with it, family members who have lost their fight with it and knowing friends and those people around me who have had their lives affected by it.

I’m not a scientist. I don’t have the brains for it. I’m by no means going to be the person who cures it or does anything to work our way towards finding a cure outside of doing my part in trying to raise some money for research. This is why this year I’ve decided that I will take part in the World’s Greatest Shave and try and raise some money for research into blood cancer like Leukemia by shaving my head. Hopefully I can gather some support from my friends and family who will reach into their pockets and support such a great cause.

Now what can I do to try and help raise this money? Well I guess if I’m going to play to my strengths, I’d have to do something artwork based. So this is part of the idea I’ve had. Read on.

I had the idea today that I could produce some pieces of original artwork and sell them, with all of the money raised going into my fund raising pile. The aim of this game is raising money though, so I need to figure out whether or not I should set a price for the art and just have it available for one price, or try and get some sort of bidding happening with it by starting a reasonable (don’t be cheap people) starting price on the pieces. You can tell me what you think would work better if you like. Just leave me a comment here, on Twitter or on Facebook. Anyway, to the left you’ll find a piece of art that I did today. Click it to see it bigger. If you want to make an offer on it, send me an email! It’s A4 and done with Copic Multiliner pens.

The second art idea I had was to use these cards that I recently bought. They’re made by Strathmore and are called Artist Trading Cards. They measure 2.5″ by 3.5″ and the ones I have are Illustration Board. I have 10 of these cards. I was thinking about doing some original art on each of the 10 cards (just black and white) and then selling them each for a fixed price. The first price that pops into my head is around $20 per card. That’d raise a total of $200 if all 10 are sold. That seems reasonable to me and a good stack of cash to put towards my fund raising goal! Do you think this is reasonable?

What do you think of these ideas? All I really know how to do well is artwork. I feel that I’d be fooling myself to try and do anything else to try and bring attention to the cause, so if I can produce some original art to sell to raise the money as well as the regular ways, why shouldn’t I give it a shot?

Anyway, if you are interested in giving a donation to support me in this quest for head shavedom, you can go to this link and donate – my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/saltmarsh

  1. I’d love to buy some original artwork – even better if the proceeds go to a great cause!

  2. Si Robbrown says:

I would buy your art, for sure, but studying and lacking funding so would be disrespectful what i could pay so the card thing sounds cool…would be more than willing to make a donation for the shave though regardless of the art…
